Richard Ashcroft - Music is Power
Richard Ashcroft's music has soundtracked my life. This was a big deal to me.
So i was honoured when i got the call from the lads at Modfather HQ to get involved with this project and had to think of a way of trying to encapsulate
'Music is Power"
I had the idea of him looking to the heavens with the music coursing through his body i just need to find a way to frame it.
With his recent sampling of Love and Affection and historically other tunes such as Bittersweet and MIP, Ashcroft said recently in an interview that he likes to use elements from the past to move his music forward. So with that in mind I dived into the Art the Nouveau movement of 1890 as my inspiration for this piece.
Art Nouveau was a period that dripped with decorative flamboyance but with nods to modern graphic illustration. Artists would transform organic shapes from the natural world into abstract patterns and flowing lines to create symmetrical pattern effects that would frame the main portrait. I've used this basis as the framework to visualise the aura of music and sound. Richard sits centrally in the piece letting these patterns 'flow through his mind' As he repeats the spiritual mantra of "Music is Power"
Occasionally a commission comes long that makes you excited and nervous in equal measure, And those were my overriding emotions when I got the call from Mario and Dan at Modfather Clothing, Damien at Universal Music regarding this commission. because of how much his music means to me. So I'm delighted to say that all parties, but especially Richard himself were all delighted with the finished piece.
Universal Music now have sole rights to this piece, but as part of the agreement they have kindly allowed me to sell just 35 limited editions of it here.
30 limited editions, and 5 larger special editions.
Once these are gone they are gone. I will not be offering any other reprints after that.
2 original canvas's were created. Both slightly different from each other. One canvas can be seen at Modfather Clothing's iconic Camden store in London. The other resides with Richard himself.
