The Specials - PixelPantone
£25.00 - £75.00
The Specials studio Discography from 1979 - 2019 explored and reduced down to 16 pixel colour blocks.
How far can you condense an image down and allow it to retain its defining data? Does it still bare a resemblance to its source image? or does it become an appealing abstract in its own right?
My PixelPantone project explores the concept of condensing iconic album artwork down into 16 blocks and reproducing the results in high quality prints. Taking inspiration from the classic Pantone colour reference guide it allows me to include The artist name, release date and album title to tie the whole piece together.
This series of work takes me back to my roots. As a video game artist in the late 90's my skill set involved pushing pixels to create artwork and motion graphics using very limited colour palettes where every pixel and colour choice counted.
I discovered colour blocks designed to be viewed in small resolution took on dynamic abstract form when greatly enlarged. I'm pleased after all these years to finally get this project out of my head and into print.
